6-Month Contract-to-Hire

As the Data Architect for our Fortune 100 Telecommunications client, you will lead the improvement of the database structure in order to make data more accessible and usable for the organization. You will work with Hadoop technologies (Hive, Impala, HDFS), SQL and relational databases, and will drive data modeling and data analysis. You will work directly within the Data Science team to simplify the architecture, standardize processes/tools, and build a data culture across the enterprise. You consider yourself to be a highly motivated individual, a self-starter, and a leader, and will demonstrate this through educating others, implementing solutions and independently learning new technologies.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 5+ years’ experience in Data Architecture/Modeling/Governance/Quality
  • Experience building data warehouses, pipelines and marts in Hive or Impala and/or other Hadoop technologies
  • Experience with large-scale data platforms using Big Data Technologies
  • Proficiency in SQL and relational databases such as MS SQL or SQL Server
  • Strong database designing, database modeling and database management experience
  • Good experience documenting requests, solutions and procedures
  • Ability to independently learn new technologies, data-related approaches and methodologies and educate Data Scientists on the same to rapidly deliver solutions/models

Strongly Prefer:

  • Linux/Unix experience
  • Experience with Python, R, Scala and/or Java and willingness to learn all of them
  • Experience in ETL, ELT and data validation
  • Experience with Cloudera (CDP) or Hortonworks (HDP) Big Data Platform
  • Experience writing Python scripts with knowledge of relevant frameworks and libraries
  • Experience with continuous integration of applications and/or machine learning models
  • Hands-on experience with version control such as GitHub
  • Familiarity with Agile development methodologies such as Scrum
  • Strong desire to mentor others, providing technical and business guidance
  • Understanding of lineage, data flow, impact analysis, problem analysis, and dashboarding.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Manage and architect data warehouse platform; create a data model that allows the organization to solve business problems by leveraging data
  • Work closely with technology and business partners to understand customer experience data (i.e. volume of calls to customer service, customer retention rate, success of new products/services)
  • Develop, document and maintain logical and physical data models that accurately reflect the existing environment, update models for new projects/enhancements
  • Review data sources and assess data quality; determine the appropriate data inputs, outputs and integration rules and strategy
  • Document requirements, success criteria, proposed solutions including delivery dates for requests and then confirm the same with appropriate stakeholders
  • Use historical data to identify trends, drive decision making, improve business performance and predict behavior
  • Recommend solutions to improve new and existing database systems and potential alternative solutions
  • Define and enforce data architecture standards, procedures, metrics, and policies to ensure consistency across the portfolio
  • Translate advanced business analytics problems into technical and data design approaches that deliver outcomes for stakeholders
  • Collaborate with Product Owners, Subject Matter Experts, Data Scientists, Administrators, and other team members to enable the effective use of Big Data tools, technologies and platforms for optimal analytics
