Title: Database Administrator

Department: IT

Reporting To: IT Infrastructure Manager

Location: Ideally Cincinnati Area but open to remote candidates in EST and CST (Excludes New Jersey)

Duration: 6–12-month contract-to-hire

Pay: $45-50/hr DOE

SUMMARY

Brooksource is looking for a Database Admin (DBA) to join the team of our industry leading security client in the Cincinnati area. The Database Administrator is part of an innovative and customer focused team providing hands-on database maintenance, troubleshooting, and monitoring to ensure the uptime and growth of our client's MySQL Server Databases.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Research

·      Research and recommend data storage options based on use case

·      Capacity Planning

·      Install and test new database versions

·      Familiar with data protection and privacy expectations – Including replication

·      Set up benchmark to determine impact of changes against workload

Maintain

·      Monitor database daily

·      Document and maintain databases

·      Plan and coordinate optimizations including index changes, data archival, configuration changes

·      Maintain data diagrams Identify and optimize

·      MySQL inefficiencies

·      Identify and document stories in Jira

Project Planning

·      Participate in project planning.

·      Collaborate with infrastructure on backup and security design

·      Design, implement, monitor, and maintain databases and replica instances

·      Collaborate with multiple product teams Participate on change control board

Emergency Response

·      Respond to system issues

·      Diagnose and document root cause

·      Participate on emergency response team (Calm under pressure)

Other duties as assigned

·      Participate in projects assigned by manager

·      Maintain and follow ISO standards

·      Seek out and complete appropriate training, development, and research

·      Knowledge of department processes

·      Support the mission, principles, and goals of the company

·      Flexible database platform i.e., Google Cloud Platform

·      Database Monitoring Tools

·      Configuration Analysis

·      Good verbal and written communication skills

 

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS / PREFERENCES

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent relevant experience
