Transmission Operator Tools (EMS) Engineer
6 month Contract-to-Hire
Hybrid – Richmond, VA
Open to candidates starting remotely during contract period if not currently located in Richmond, VA area
Our Fortune 500 utilities partner located in the Richmond, VA area is looking for a Transmission Operator Tools (EMS) Engineer to join their organization. As an Operator Tools Engineer (at the consulting level) at our partner, you will join their SOC (System Operations Center) team and will focus on a major initiative in upgrading and enhancing their current EMS (Energy Management System) tools to meet the strategic goals of the organization.
Requirements:
- 4 year Engineering Degree from ABET accredited engineering program
- 10+ years relevant engineering experience
- Experience in this position is defined as working in the electric utility industry or related industry (in Transmission System Operations, Substation Engineering, System Protection, Distribution Planning, or Transmission Planning, or related experience) or research engineering work experience on directly related projects for the electric utility industry. Work on such projects may be accomplished as part of an Electrical Engineering Masters or Ph.D. program on its own or in combination with additional research engineering work experience on directly related projects for the electric utility industry.
- Industry experience working at a Utility (Transmission Owner/Operator, Regional Operator) as part of a team within the System Operating Center whose primary focus was the maintenance, upgrading, and troubleshooting of their Energy Management System (EMS). (Common vendors are GE/Alstom (preferred), Siemens, OSI Inc. Monarch)
Responsibilities:
- Modeling (Will not be sole function, but candidate should have knowledge of the modeling process and tools used)
- Display Management (Will not be sole function, but candidate should have knowledge of the modeling process and tools used)
- Full EMS Upgrades (Design, Testing, Commissioning)
- Addition of new EMS applications (Design, Testing, Commissioning)
- Designing, assisting with, and/or delivering training on EMS tools
- Working closely with vendors on projects and trouble tickets
- Working closely with operations staff on trouble tickets, taking feedback for improvements, and working within SOC organization to implement/resolve these issues items.
- Role requires in-depth understanding of the workings of the EMS as a whole on a technical level
