ABOUT THE ROLE
Our Client is seeking a Substation Planner responsible for supporting the planning, coordination, and logistical aspects of substation operations and construction projects. This role involves finalizing and administering work requests, reconciling material issues, and ensuring timely issuance and availability of materials for both internal teams and contractors. The Substation Planner will prepare and review work schedules, participate in planning meetings, and assist with job readiness and resource allocation. Additional responsibilities include conducting inventory audits, maintaining compliance with corporate guidelines, supporting budget and administrative tasks, and publishing departmental metrics. The ideal candidate will have at least five years of operations experience in underground and overhead distribution construction, strong analytical and organizational skills, and proficiency with work management systems and Microsoft Office Suite. A high school diploma or GED is required, with a college degree considered in lieu of up to two years of experience. This position requires strong collaboration with internal teams and external contractors, and a commitment to safety, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Finalize and manage work requests, including follow-up activities and reconciliation of material issues with Electric Delivery Stores and Plant Accounting.
- Provide planning, organizing, logistical, and coordination support for SPP Operations, including work request administration, work coordination for scheduled and follow-up activities, and monitoring material and equipment availability for work request readiness.
- Assist with the optimization of construction-related operating resources across Planning & Scheduling disciplines; validate job plans including job sequence, man-hour estimates, material and equipment requirements, and coordination needs.
- Oversee issuance and timely delivery of materials to contractors, conduct proactive audits of contractor storage yards, and ensure compliance with corporate guidelines for material storage and inventory control.
- Oversee all reconciliation activity associated with contractor work requests.
- Prepare weekly ‘four-week look-ahead’ schedules, participate in planning meetings to review future schedules, and hand off construction documentation and schedules to Electric Delivery Operations, including work request and job plan details, drawings, maps, and permits.
- Assist Project Managers, SPP Design, and Contractor Partners in quantifying and verifying workload, job readiness, and resource availability, including pre-plan of the week activities.
- Coordinate and conduct required inventory audits, including scheduling, day-of assistance, record keeping, and ensuring all corrections and write-offs are completed.
- Perform ad hoc research at management’s request to identify trends and make recommendations related to material usage and storage.
- Maintain compliance with all company record-keeping requirements related to Electric Delivery’s supply chain operations and publish departmental metrics related to goals.
- Support general administrative responsibilities, including coordinating petty cash, employee timekeeping, and budget-related tasks as required.
- Collaborate with key internal stakeholders such as Planner-Schedulers, Area Managers, Operations & Field Engineering Supervisors, Crew Members, Field Engineers, System Operators, and Stores and Materials Management, as well as external contractors.
WHAT YOU BRING
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Minimum 5 years operations experience in underground and overhead distribution construction, with progressively more complex assignments (college degree may substitute for up to 2 years of experience).
- Demonstrated knowledge of methods, materials, and standard practices in Electric Delivery operations.
- Understanding of construction, maintenance, and operations for transmission and distribution systems, including Safe Work Practices.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Good oral communication skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to optimize and balance multiple work types and adapt to changing priorities.
- Proficiency with GIS, work management systems (e.g., WORKPro), and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Experience with material management, inventory audits, and contractor coordination.
- Ability to work collaboratively with internal teams and external contractors.
- Preferred: Distribution operations experience and working knowledge of CIS.
- Demonstrated commitment to business and job knowledge, sound judgment, ownership and excellence, producing results, teamwork, and working safely.
- Adaptability and willingness to lead or support change initiatives.
