Electrical Estimator

4 Irving Pl, New York, NY

Hybrid (3 Onsite, 2 Remote)

$70 - $75 per hour

12 Month Contract to Full-Time Hire


Summary

Our client is seeking a dedicated, dynamic, and innovative Electrical Estimator to join the Environmental Engineering and Program Support – Estimating Section in a hybrid role based in New York, NY. This position offers a 12-month contract with the potential for full-time hire. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing conceptual, authorization, and appropriation cost estimates for multidiscipline construction projects, with a focus on substations and steam generation facilities. The role requires a high energy level, strong organizational, leadership, and decision-making skills, as well as the ability to manage multiple assignments and shifting priorities. Candidates should be self-motivated, resourceful, and articulate, with a “can-do” attitude, a clear sense of accountability, and a commitment to environmental excellence and safety. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential for effective collaboration with engineering, construction, and user organizations. Proficiency in relevant software such as Microsoft Project and CEES is required. The ideal candidate will demonstrate exemplary customer service and possess the ability to interact with people at all levels.


Responsibilities:

  • Prepare conceptual, authorization, and appropriation cost estimates for multidiscipline construction projects, including substations and steam generation facilities.
  • Develop estimates based on preliminary work scopes, drawings, and sketches, utilizing personal experience and historical data to address missing information.
  • Apply knowledge of capital budget processes and utility economics in preparing estimates for project funding approvals.
  • Contribute to the development of project work scopes during estimate preparation to ensure constructibility and cost efficiency.
  • Evaluate alternative designs and assist in selecting optimal solutions for projects.
  • Meet and collaborate with engineering, construction, and user organizations to ensure comprehensive project estimates.
  • Utilize computer and mainframe software such as Microsoft Project, CEES, and similar programs for estimating and project management tasks.
  • Maintain strong organizational, leadership, and interpersonal skills to manage multiple assignments and changing priorities.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to environmental excellence, workplace safety, and exemplary customer service in all estimating activities.
  • Contribute to the development of project work scopes and ensure all aspects of the project are incorporated in the estimate.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree (Technical or Non-Technical) with at least 5 years of applicable work experience; OR Associate’s degree with at least 7 years applicable experience; OR Technical High School Diploma with at least 15 years applicable experience.
  • Experience in power utility or heavy industrial cost estimating in at least one discipline (e.g., electrical, civil, mechanical) with knowledge in other disciplines.
  • Experience in transmission, distribution, or generation engineering design and/or construction, particularly in substations and steam generation facilities.
  • Strong organizational, leadership, interpersonal, and decision-making skills.
  • Proficiency with computer and mainframe systems, including Microsoft Project, CEES, or similar software.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to interact with people at all levels.
  • Ability to handle multiple assignments and changing priorities with a high energy level and attention to detail.
  • Commitment to environmental excellence, workplace safety, and exemplary customer service.
  • Ability to prepare conceptual, authorization, and appropriation cost estimates for multidiscipline construction projects.
  • Ability to develop estimates based on preliminary work scopes, drawings, and sketches using personal experience and historical data.
