Job Description
Engineering Technologist (Materials Laboratory)
Hybrid role.
Compensation: $40 - $70 per hour
ABOUT THE ROLE
Our client is seeking a hands-on Engineering Technologist to support materials testing and laboratory operations for oil & gas and emerging energy applications. In this role, you will work closely with Materials Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to prepare samples, operate laboratory equipment, conduct testing activities, and maintain accurate experimental records. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, safety-focused, and comfortable working in a laboratory environment while supporting multiple research and testing initiatives. You will play a key role in ensuring compliance with laboratory safety standards, managing inventory and equipment maintenance, and assisting with research and testing programs.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Safely operate laboratory equipment used for sample preparation and materials testing
- Support testing and evaluation of materials for oil & gas and new energy applications
- Accurately record experimental observations, test data, and results
- Maintain digital archives and organization of laboratory data and documentation
- Monitor laboratory equipment performance and perform routine maintenance activities
- Troubleshoot basic equipment issues and coordinate repairs as needed
- Manage laboratory inventory, supplies, consumables, and replacement parts
- Maintain compliance with laboratory safety standards, including HARC documentation, SDS management, and equipment SOPs
- Assist materials engineers and subject matter experts with testing programs and experimental activities
- Ensure laboratory workspaces remain organized, clean, and operational
WHAT YOU BRING
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Engineering Technology, Mechanical Technology, Materials Science, Chemistry, Physics, or a related technical field
- Experience operating laboratory, testing, or analytical equipment in an industrial, research, manufacturing, or engineering environment
- Ability to accurately document observations, test results, and technical data
- Familiarity with laboratory safety practices and procedures
- Basic mechanical aptitude for equipment monitoring, maintenance, and troubleshooting
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and digital recordkeeping systems
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Experience supporting materials testing, laboratory research, or R&D environments (preferred)
- Experience within the oil & gas, energy, manufacturing, chemicals, or materials industries (preferred)
- Familiarity with laboratory equipment calibration and preventive maintenance (preferred)
- Knowledge of safety documentation, including SDS and SOP management (preferred)
