Senior GCP Cloud Engineer
Location: Lansing, MI - Hybrid on site Tuesday and Wednesday
Rate: $100-$120/hr.

Position Overview
We are seeking a Senior GCP Cloud Engineer to join our Cloud Operations team and serve as the team's GCP subject matter expert. This individual will work closely with the Cloud Architect and Cloud Operations team to support new cloud initiatives, migrate applications into Google Cloud Platform (GCP), and establish scalable, repeatable processes for cloud adoption.
The ideal candidate brings a strong application development background combined with hands-on cloud engineering experience. They will be responsible for designing and implementing cloud solutions, provisioning and scaling GCP infrastructure, and helping application teams successfully transition workloads into the cloud.
This is a highly collaborative role requiring someone who can move comfortably between technical engineering, application development, cloud architecture, and business-facing conversations.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the GCP subject matter expert within the Cloud Operations team.
- Partner closely with the Cloud Architect and other technical teams to design, implement, and operationalize GCP solutions.
- Support multiple new cloud project requests, helping teams evaluate requirements and determine the appropriate cloud architecture and implementation approach.
- Migrate applications and workloads into GCP, including developing repeatable processes and best practices for cloud migration.
- Provision, configure, manage, and scale core GCP resources, including compute, storage, networking, and related cloud services.
- Develop automation and Infrastructure-as-Code solutions to improve consistency, scalability, and operational efficiency.
- Build and maintain ETL/data pipelines to support application and business requirements.
- Utilize GitHub-based workflows and automation to support source control, deployment, and engineering processes.
- Work with GCP-based development and coding tools to develop and implement cloud solutions.
- Translate business and agency-level requirements into clear technical requirements, solutions, and implementation plans.
- Collaborate directly with Agency stakeholders to understand their needs, identify technical solutions, and communicate complex cloud concepts in an understandable manner.
- Establish and improve cloud engineering standards, processes, documentation, and best practices.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in cloud engineering, DevOps, application development, infrastructure engineering, or a related field.
- Strong hands-on experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
- Proven experience migrating applications or workloads into GCP.
- Strong experience designing and developing CI/CD pipelines.
- Experience provisioning, configuring, and scaling GCP resources such as compute and storage.
- Experience with GitHub and Git-based development/automation workflows.
- Hands-on experience building and supporting ETL/data pipelines.
- Experience with cloud automation and Infrastructure-as-Code practices.
- Strong understanding of application architecture, deployment processes, and cloud-native development concepts.
- Ability to translate business requirements into technical solutions and communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently, troubleshoot complex problems, and adapt to changing priorities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Background in Application Development prior to transitioning into cloud engineering.
- Experience establishing processes and standards for application migration into GCP.
- Experience with GCP services such as Compute Engine, Cloud Storage, Cloud Run, GKE, BigQuery, Cloud Functions, Pub/Sub, or similar services.
- Experience with Terraform or other Infrastructure-as-Code technologies.
- Experience with GitHub Actions or similar CI/CD automation platforms.
- Experience developing enterprise ETL/data integration solutions.
- Experience working in a government, enterprise, or highly regulated environment.
- Google Cloud certifications such as Professional Cloud Architect, Professional Cloud DevOps Engineer, or Professional Cloud Engineer.
