Location: Duncan, OK (Onsite / Hybrid)
Overview
We are seeking a senior Control Systems Engineer to support the next phase of development for our client's automated cementing system, a critical platform used in global offshore oilfield operations. This role is part of a small, highly specialized engineering team based in Duncan, Oklahoma, responsible for designing, building, testing, and commissioning automated cementing equipment deployed on offshore rigs worldwide.
This is a hands-on, senior individual contributor role — ideal for someone who blends PLC programming, automation engineering, and software development, and who is comfortable working close to physical equipment in real-world industrial environments. You will work closely with electrical, mechanical, and software engineers to help develop a remote control and orchestration system for offshore equipment, augmenting a lean team and supporting senior engineers driving the program.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop automation and orchestration logic, primarily above the PLC layer
- Write and maintain PLC software (Siemens required) for industrial control systems
- Develop supporting automation and orchestration components using Python (nice to have)
- Work hands-on with industrial equipment, including valves, pumps, motors, sensors, and control systems
- Support testing, troubleshooting, commissioning, and field validation of equipment
- Collaborate daily with electrical, mechanical, and software engineers in a fast-paced, multi-disciplinary environment
- Contribute to the development of remote control systems for offshore skid-based equipment
- Help alleviate workload for senior technical leads by taking ownership of assigned workstreams
Required Qualifications
- Strong PLC programming experience, specifically Siemens PLC software (must-have)
- Experience working in industrial, manufacturing, or oil & gas environments
- Hands-on exposure to heavy machinery, motors, and industrial control systems
- Prior involvement in testing and commissioning of equipment
- Familiarity with industrial communication protocols such as OPC UA, MQTT, REST
- Ability to work onsite with the Duncan-based team for the majority of the project, especially during onboarding
- Self-starter with the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a small team
Preferred / Nice-to-Have Qualifications
- Background in offshore or oilfield equipment environments
- Experience with EX-rated / hazardous environments (ATEX, IECEx)
- Python development experience supporting automation or orchestration layers
- Prior onsite installation or field deployment experience
