Network Engineer I

Hybrid Role

Compensation: $35 per hour


ABOUT THE ROLE

Our client is seeking a Network Engineer I to join their team, supporting the planning, forecasting, implementation, and optimization of network systems ranging from basic to moderate complexity. Under general supervision, you will play a key role in network architecture design, integrating communication technologies, and ensuring protocol compatibility. This position involves evaluating new products, resolving network issues, developing and documenting technical standards, and implementing network enhancements. You will work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment, supporting 24x7 network operations, and may occasionally travel as required. The ideal candidate is a collaborative team player with a strong foundation in networking concepts, adaptability, and a commitment to enhancing the customer experience.


WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Assist in planning, forecasting, and implementing network systems of basic to moderate complexity
  • Monitor protocol compatibility standards, develop and implement network enhancements, and make recommendations for improvement
  • Participate in network architecture design, engineering, and integration of communication architectures, topologies, hardware, software, transmission and signaling links, and protocols into complete network configurations
  • Evaluate new products and perform network problem resolution
  • Develop and document technical standards and implement approved methods of procedure
  • Work on projects and systems of medium to high complexity related to network planning, configuration, and optimization
  • Provide tier support across organizations and participate as a project team member, occasionally as a project team lead
  • Adhere to industry-specific local, state, and federal regulations, as applicable, and follow company policies
  • Actively and consistently support all efforts to simplify and enhance the customer experience
  • Perform other duties as requested by supervisor

WHAT YOU BRING

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field, or equivalent work experience
  • 0-2 years of data network experience
  • Intermediate knowledge of data networking (OSI Model, TCP/IP, Optical Networking)
  • Knowledge of network design, architecture, protocols, and topology
  • Intermediate knowledge of industry standards (IEEE, ANSI, Fiber—Multimode, Single mode, UTP, etc.—Bridging, Switching, Routing, Ethernet, Transport technologies and protocols)
  • Ability to use personal computers and software applications, including Microsoft Office and network design software (e.g., Visio)
  • Intermediate experience with ticketing and software tools to support network operations
  • Intermediate knowledge of basic network devices and appliances
  • Ability to work in a team environment and perform in a fast-paced setting
  • Ability to learn new technology quickly
  • Strong communication skills in English (verbal and written) to interact with employees, customers, and suppliers in a clear, straightforward, and professional manner
  • Preferred: Knowledge of company products and services
  • Preferred: Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) or other relevant industry/vendor certifications (Cisco, Juniper, Alcatel-Lucent, etc.)

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Office environment and may work in a Network Lab environment
  • 24x7 Network Operations environment
  • Occasional travel as required
