ABOUT THE ROLE

Join DTE’s Distribution Operations – Regional Customer Operations (RCO) group, where customer needs meet the engineering and operational work that keeps the grid running. The RCO team manages new customer connections, service upgrades, and capacity assessments, ensuring the distribution system can safely support growth. As an Electrical Engineer, you will design customer jobs, conduct field visits, and collaborate with engineers to deliver reliable service solutions. You will also act as an “air traffic controller” for the grid—monitoring dashboards, identifying abnormalities, triaging escalations, and routing issues to the right engineering groups. This role blends customer interaction, technical design, and system awareness to keep communities connected and DTE’s distribution grid operating safely and reliably. The team is moving toward automation and centralized dashboard management, offering opportunities for continuous learning and professional growth.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Participate in the planning, analysis, and day-to-day reliability oversight of assigned distribution circuits, with a primary focus on circuit ownership within Regional Customer Operations
  • Process and analyze incoming data from dashboards, perform preliminary analysis, apply DTE guidelines and SWIs, and determine actions based on reliability metrics
  • Conduct field patrols (site visits, not electrical field work) to validate conditions and ensure compliance with DTE safety regulations
  • Receive and address work items surfaced via dashboards or reliability criteria; analyze, prioritize, and escalate to regional engineers as needed
  • Provide outputs and guidelines that inform next steps for operational teams
  • Support storm response activities across 2–3 defined work buckets
  • Engage in cross-team communication and relationship building to facilitate effective operations and information flow
  • Interact face-to-face with customers to address needs, provide reliable service solutions, and ensure a positive customer experience
  • Monitor dashboards for abnormalities, triage escalations, and route issues to appropriate engineering groups
  • Contribute to the transition toward automation and centralized dashboards for request processing and reliability management

WHAT YOU BRING

  • Currently pursuing or holding a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related field
  • Ability to participate in planning, analysis, and reliability oversight of distribution circuits
  • Experience with data analysis from dashboards and applying operational guidelines
  • Comfortable conducting field patrols to validate conditions (site visits, not electrical field work)
  • Strong initiative and ownership; able to build relationships across teams and take responsibility for outcomes
  • Effective communicator; organized and clear in both written and verbal interactions
  • Inquisitive, life-long learner, not afraid to ask questions, and adaptable to ambiguity
  • Ability to prioritize, escalate issues, and support storm response as needed
  • Comfortable with face-to-face customer interactions and cross-functional collaboration
  • Commitment to safety regulations and operational standards
