Payroll Operations Lead

Remote (With Occasional Travel)

Salary Range: $80-$110/hr - Final Compensation will be determined based on experience, skills, and location.


About the role

Our federal integrator partner is looking for a Payroll Operations Lead to support an active government contract. In this position you will oversee end‑to‑end payroll operations, ensuring accurate, compliant, and timely payroll processing across government agencies. In this role, you will act as a subject‑matter expert, supporting operational execution, stakeholder coordination, and continuous improvement of payroll processes.

 

Key Responsibilities

·      Lead and manage payroll operations across public-sector environments on an active government contract

·      Ensure payroll accuracy, compliance, and adherence to applicable regulations and policies

·      Serve as a payroll subject‑matter expert supporting client stakeholders

·      Partner with IT teams to resolve payroll issues and optimize processes

·      Support payroll system operations, enhancements, and troubleshooting

·      Provide guidance on payroll controls, audits, and reporting

·      Support knowledge transfer, documentation, and process standardization efforts

 

Required Qualifications

·      Payroll operations experience supporting commercial or public sector organizations

·      Demonstrated experience leading or managing payroll operations teams or functions

·      Strong understanding of payroll compliance, controls, and operational best practices

 

Nice‑to‑Have Qualifications

·      Experience supporting federal payroll operations, ideally with prior experience at a federal payroll provider.

·      Hands‑on experience with PeopleSoft Payroll

·      Ability to work locally in the DMV area or Kansas City, with flexibility for occasional travel

·      Occasional travel may be required
