Senior Windows Systems Support Analyst (Trading & Commercial Systems)

ABOUT THE ROLE

A leading utility and energy organization is seeking a Senior Windows Systems Support Analyst to join a specialized infrastructure team supporting mission-critical enterprise systems for trading floor operations, commercial operations, and transmission billing. This team operates outside of standard IT workloads and is responsible for systems running 24/7/365, where stability, uptime, and deep technical expertise are paramount. Based in Birmingham, AL with a hybrid work arrangement, this long-term contract role blends hands-on infrastructure engineering with enterprise systems support. You will play a key role in major data center migrations, VMware upgrades, and ongoing server operations, ensuring high availability and seamless failover for business-critical environments. The ideal candidate is highly autonomous, technically strong, and comfortable supporting both tactical execution and long-term continuity of critical systems.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

• Build, configure, and deploy Windows Server environments across both virtual (approximately 70%) and physical (approximately 30%) infrastructure
• Stand up OS images, apply patching, and integrate servers into enterprise networks
• Manage physical server hardware, including iDRAC/lights-out management
• Provision, configure, and support VMware clusters (including vSAN), Windows clustering for high availability, and Storage Area Networks (SAN)
• Participate in a major VMware 8 to VMware 9 upgrade and maintain clustered, highly available infrastructure for business-critical applications
• Support proactive infrastructure monitoring, performance optimization, and ongoing operational improvements
• Support large-scale data center migration initiatives, including standing up approximately 250 servers across new data center environments, with a focus on infrastructure buildout, environment readiness, and seamless, “invisible” failover
• Support data center moves, including Auburn (current year) and Athens, GA (next year)
• Provide end-to-end production support for systems supporting trading floor operations, commercial operations, and transmission billing
• Monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve system and infrastructure issues across integrated platforms
• Document system configurations, infrastructure standards, and support procedures
• Partner closely with network architects, WAN teams, application development teams, and trading/commercial operations stakeholders
• Coordinate infrastructure readiness, testing, and handoff to application teams
• Assist in coordinating activities across multiple projects and specialized workloads

WHAT YOU BRING

• 5–10+ years of experience in systems administration, infrastructure operations, or enterprise systems support
• Strong hands-on experience with Windows Server administration, Active Directory, VMware (clusters, vSAN, upgrades), and physical/virtual server builds
• Experience supporting enterprise, business-critical environments with high availability requirements
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills across complex systems
• Ability to work independently and prioritize work in a 24/7 operational environment
• Strong communication skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
• Experience with Storage Area Networks (SAN) is highly valued
• Data center operations or migration experience preferred
• Exposure to regulated or high-availability environments is a plus
• Experience supporting systems tied to trading, utilities, or financial operations is desirable
• Energy/utilities industry experience is a plus
