GraphQL API Developer

Location: Charlotte, NC (Hybrid - 3-4 days/week onsite, ACC - 601 S Tryon Street)

Contract: 12 Month Contract with potential for Extension

Join our Banking partner's Strata Engineering team, a highly visible engineering organization responsible for powering how customers and agents interact across digital and contact center platforms.

This team owns and supports customer-facing chat experiences, contact center integrations, agent experiences through Salesforce, and IVR capabilities through Genesys. They are currently driving several strategic initiatives, including chat platform modernization, AI-powered customer service experiences, seamless authentication solutions, and next-generation customer engagement capabilities.

Unlike many enterprise engineering teams, Strata works almost exclusively with modern technologies and cloud-native architectures, providing engineers the opportunity to gain hands-on experience building scalable, customer-facing solutions that impact millions of customer interactions.

What You'll Do

• Design, develop, and maintain backend services and APIs that power Ally's customer and agent experiences.
• Build scalable REST and GraphQL APIs using Node.js, TypeScript, and modern software design patterns.
• Develop middleware services that connect customer-facing applications with backend enterprise systems.
• Contribute to customer contact center solutions supporting chat, authentication, agent experiences, and digital servicing capabilities.
• Design and support cloud-native solutions within AWS using serverless and container-based architectures.
• Partner closely with Product, DevOps, Salesforce, and Contact Center teams to deliver highly available customer experiences.
• Participate in code reviews and help establish engineering best practices across the team.
• Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines that enable efficient testing and deployment processes.
• Monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve production issues while improving system reliability and observability.
• Leverage AI-assisted development tools to improve engineering productivity, code quality, testing, and automation.
• Contribute to strategic initiatives involving conversational AI, agent assistance, and next-generation customer engagement technologies.

Required Qualifications

• Strong experience developing backend applications using JavaScript and TypeScript.
• Experience building and supporting GraphQL APIs in Node.js.
• Experience designing and integrating distributed systems and service-oriented architectures.
• Experience developing and deploying applications on AWS.
• Understanding of cloud-native development principles and modern application architectures.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and automated testing practices.
• Experience working with relational and/or NoSQL databases.
• Strong problem-solving, debugging, and troubleshooting skills.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience building GraphQL APIs and understanding when GraphQL is advantageous over traditional REST patterns.
• Experience with AWS services such as Lambda, DynamoDB, API Gateway, ECS, EKS, or containerized workloads.
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform.
• Exposure to React or React Native development.
• Experience with Go (Golang).
• Experience integrating or consuming Salesforce APIs and services.
• Familiarity with contact center platforms such as Genesys.
