Network Infrastructure Design Technician


  • Location: Remote (must be comfortable working East Coast hours
  • 7-month contract with potential for extension
  • W-2 only
  • Compensation: $30-$40/hr.

Brooksource is searching for a Network Infrastructure Design Technician to join our enterprise Telecommunications client. This technician will support internal network order fulfillment and circuit design across a complex, multi‑technology telecom environment.

This role is responsible for designing accurate circuit layouts, maintaining network inventory integrity, and supporting provisioning activities across Layer 1 transport technologies.


You will play a critical role in ensuring network designs are accurate, documented, and ready to support both day‑to‑day operations and long‑term network growth. The ideal candidate brings a strong understanding of telecom infrastructure, inventory systems, and provisioning workflows, along with the ability to manage workload efficiently in a fast‑paced environment. This technician will be responsible for producing and maintaining detailed design records that demonstrate a deep understanding of the network and provide the documentation necessary to support outages, maintenance activity, and future provisioning.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Designing and redesigning Layer 1 circuit layout records within TIRKS to accurately reflect network builds across DWDM, SONET, TDM, Ethernet, and IP technologies.
  • Resolving inventory discrepancies in accordance with EIRG/FIRG databases, job aids, and established procedures.
  • Collaborating closely with Planning and Engineering teams to build and provision equipment and infrastructure circuits that support customer and business needs.
  • Developing and maintaining a strong understanding of fiber cable configurations and how they relate to network design solutions.
  • Maintaining and supporting network infrastructure records across all applicable inventory and design applications.
  • Designing and processing internal network orders accurately and efficiently while meeting defined SLAs, quality standards, and on‑time delivery expectations.
  • Managing an assigned order queue with strong time management skills and a focus on customer excellence.
  • Supporting complex provisioning requirements across multiple technologies and delivery models.
  • Applying working knowledge of switched and special access services, optical Ethernet solutions, local loop and long‑haul transport, and DACS cross‑connects.
  • Providing technical support to engineering, installation, and testing teams as needed to ensure successful completion of network orders.
  • Supporting project‑based work driven by organizational growth and evolving infrastructure demands.

REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • Hands‑on knowledge of optical networking equipment such as Ciena, Fujitsu, and Alcatel/Lucent.
  • Experience working with telecommunications inventory systems including TIRKS, OMNIvue, WMS, WFMT, and BOSS.
  • Knowledge of inside plant fiber‑optic structured wiring design, construction, and operations.
  • A strong technical understanding of voice, data, and Ethernet products, related equipment, and evolving product/design rules.
  • An expert understanding of on‑net and off‑net design and routing requirements.
  • The ability to work effectively across both legacy and next‑generation design systems.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work cross‑functionally.
  • Demonstrated problem‑solving, analytical skills, and attention to detail.
  • The ability to work independently, manage priorities, and meet KPI expectations.
  • A commitment to continuous learning and skill development through formal and on‑the‑job training.
  • The ability to quickly evaluate challenges and recommend appropriate remediation strategies.

NICE TO HAVE:

  • Previous experience designing infrastructure circuits within a telecommunications network.
